Bread Experiment

Thinking like a Scientist

  • Fair Testing
  • Mould/How it Grows?/Where it Grows? What does it grow on? Why it grows?
  • Experimenting
  • What is Mould? Funge Family.
  • Can you eat it?

Hypothesis:
Room 4 thinks that the mould in the bush outside with water will grow the fastest because it gets really damp outside.

On top of the cupboard/ with water
Window/ with water
Fridge/ with water
Tote Tray/ with water
In the bush / with water
Inside a desk/ with water
Underneath the sink/ with water
On top of the fridge. / with water

How much water? Measure and rule a line on the bag

Method:

  1. Everyone washes their hands
  2. Pass the bread around and touch it (not squish) for only six seconds
  3. Everyone touches it ONCE
  4. We fill up half of the bags with water up to the measured line.
  5. Mr Harman Places the bread in the bags
  6. We put the bags in each of the spots.
  7. One bag is wet/one is dry at each spot.

Analysis:

We think that the bread that grew the most mould was because it was in a dark, cold and damp place. We think that the bread that grew no mould because it was stored in a cool dry place.

Action:
We think that we will not leave our food in dark, damp places because it will grow lots of yuck black, green and purple mould. Keep your bread in the fridge.
